Unified Transit Fees and new transport facilitation measures between Syria and Jordan

Amman, SANA – The Syrian-Jordanian Joint Technical Committee for Land Transport held a meeting in the Jordanian capital, Amman, from June 25 to 26. This meeting is in implementation of the agreement reached between the transport ministers of the Syrian Arab Republic and Jordan during the first meeting of the Supreme Coordination Council held in Damascus on May 20.

During the meeting, which was chaired on the Syrian side by deputy minister of Transport Mohammad Rahhal, and on the Jordanian side by Secretary-General of the ministry of transport, Fares Abu Dayyeh, the committee discussed ways to activate bilateral cooperation and overcome obstacles hindering the flow of land passenger and cargo traffic between the two countries.

It was also agreed to amend and unify transit fees to 2 percent for both countries, down from 5 percent for the Jordanian side. This is part of the reciprocity principal implementation and the facilitation of freight and transport between the two sides, this reflects the improvement in bilateral relations, contributes to facilitating passenger traffic, and enhances regional economic integration and trade exchange.
